The Small Free Library Project
Our studio teamed up with the local parks department to come up with new ways of promoting the Small Free Library movement (imagine small birdhouses filled with books, installed on public property). The goal was to re-imagine what a Small Free Library could be, and have it play a more intimate role in where it is placed.

The Site
Camden Ave Park is located in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. The library would be placed right next to the community garden, close to the main access points, and visible from the street to discourage vandalism.
Design Drivers
The main users of the park are 6-13 year old children. The design needed to be relevant and meaningful to them, as well as fun and interactive. It also had to establish a narrative with an outdoor climbing wall to be installed in the young adult section of the park.
Final Design: #CAMDEN
A climb-able outdoor bookshelf, also acting as a neighborhood icon.
Certain sections of the letters would have shelving to store the books
Construction would be similar to the way skateboard ramps are built
Next Steps
The Parks Department is doing a review of the models and plans to determine which of the Small Free Libraries are to be installed in the parks. SO WISH ME LUCK, GUYS!!!!
